Burcott Mill

Historic Water Mill, Guest House & Self Catering

Wookey, Wells, Somerset, BA5 1NJ

Telephone 01749 673118

Burcott Mill is an ideal base for your Somerset holiday or short break. We offer something for everyone. Nestling between the Somerset Levels and the Mendip Hills, Burcott Mill is only one mile from historic Wells, England's smallest city, and the world famous Wookey Hole Caves. It is within easy reach of Bath (world heritage city), Cheddar (caves & gorge), Glastonbury (Arthurian legends, abbey ruins & tor), Street (Clark's shopping village), Weston-super-Mare (Victorian seaside resort), Taunton (Somerset's county town) and Bristol (historic maritime centre).

Burcott Mill is a working water-powered flour mill, reconstructed by Devon craftsmen in 1864. There has been a mill on this site for over 1,000 years and few such watermills still operate commercially today. We now specialise in the production of 100% organic wholemeal stoneground flour made from organic English wheat grain.

The Mill is open to the public for visits on Saturdays and Sundays from Easter until the end of September, 11am to 5pm. Admission charges apply.

Between Easter and October you can visit our country tea room. For children, we have a large adventure play area built to required safety standards, and a number of small friendly animals and wildfowl.

The Miller's House is a charming Grade II listed building adjoining the Mill. Your hosts are Lesley & Ian Burt.

There are six guest rooms each offering comfortable and private facilities. Four are family rooms. Two are located on the ground floor, one with disabled access. All our rooms have TV, DVD & Freeview, complimentary tea/coffee, a clock radio, individually controlled heating and hairdryer. We have a self-catering apartment for short breaks and longer holidays. For the comfort and safety of all our guests we do not permit smoking indoors.

Our breakfasts are highly praised by our guests. We offer a selection of locally made organic yoghurts, marmalades, honey and West Country honey-roast sausages and bacon to go with your free range eggs, and of course our wholemeal bread is made by a local baker using our own flour. We cater for vegetarians and vegans, and can accommodate any special dietary needs, given sufficient notice.

During your stay you can visit the mill at your leisure or, during opening times, have a guided tour with the miller (your breakfast waiter!).

We look forward to welcoming you to our family home.

Well behaved pets are welcome in our Suites by prior arrangement
